Alcohol and Alcohol-Related Harm in the Global Context: Prevention and Policy Strategies, Kampala Uganda

Day 1: Arrive at Entebbe International Airport (Travel Time 40mins)
You will be met and picked by our company representative upon arrival at Entebbe airport, and transfer to the Hotel in Entebbe or Kampala depending on your arrival time for Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Lecture at the Hotel

After breakfast, you will have a lecture on Course overview and given a brief introduction on Alcohol Epi. Have lunch and thereafter, go for site seeing in the city suburbs.

Day 3: Makerere University

After breakfast, head to Makerere University Kololo Cumpas where you are welcomed and introduced with brief remarks. Start your lecture on Alcohol Epidemiology, screening and Methods by your professor. Alcohol and injuries in High_Risk Populations by resident professor. Have lunch and thereafter head for site seeing and city tour and return back to your hotel for dinner and over night.

Day 4: Group work

After breakfast, do your group work until lunch and after lunch you participate in team building. Head for a cultural centre for cultural gala of music, dance and drama (Ndere Centre).

Day 5: Field tour to Butabika Hospital

After breakfast, head to Butabika hospital and attend a lecture on Health and psychiatric effects of alcohol use and abuse (Dr. Basangwa) and Lecture; Stop Underage Drinking in Uganda (Bill Bekunda) Head for lunch at your hotel and thereafter go site seeing

Day 6: Field tour to Masooli Rehabilitation Center

On this day we will visit Masooli Rehabilitation Center and take  a tour of the place. Project overview by staff and a lecture on Vulnerable Children and Youth (Kasirye –Book) Lunch at Masooli and after lunch lecture on Alcohol Research Methods and tools. Professor. Dinner and over night at your hotel.

Day 7: Field tour of Twekembe Slum Project (Visit school and office)

Visit school and office at Twekembe Slum Project have a lecture on Alcohol Marketing and Slum Rating scale – Professor. Group work after lunch and dine at a place with live band.

Day 8: Field tour on SOMERO

Visit SOMERO all day doing outreach activities and dinner and overnight at the hotel of your choice.

Day 9: Group work

After breakfast have a Group work and after lunch take a field tour at Children’s AIDS Fund or a lecture on alcohol, HIV/AIDS and Commercial sex work. Professor. Return back to your hotel for dinner and over night.

Day 10: Lecture

Lecture on Alcohol Development – Professor; after lunch tour of craft market for shopping and return to your hotel for dinner and over night.

Day 11: Group work

Group work for the whole day and rehearsal and preparation for the next day’s activities

Day 12: Final Group work

Final group work, student presentation and celebrations with collaborators, enjoy eats, drinks, music and dancing. Dinner and over night.

Day 13: adventure trip.

Early morning after breakfast, head to Jinja to witness the source of the worlds’ longest river and enjoy many adventurous activities there like Boat cruise to the source of Nile, bird watching for bird lovers, white water rafting, bungee jumping, quad biking. BBQ snack and Dinner after the trip, over night in your hotel in Jinja

Day 14: Jinja Community tour

Visit Makenke Alcohol Production, Ring of Hope and have lunch in Jinja town and set off for Kampala in the afternoon, dinner and over night at the hotel in Kampala

Day 15: Kampala- Queen Elizabeth NP

Our drive-guide picks you from Kampala at your hotel or place of residence by 8:00am after your morning breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Make your fist stopover at the Equator crossing for photography. Continue with the drive to Mbarara for lunch at Agip Motel. Thereafter proceed to Queen as you enjoy beautiful scenery, herds of long horned Ankole cattle, tea plantations in Ishaka, Rift valley escarpment, open grassland and woodland savanna. Evening game drive for sightseeing is much more rewarding enroute as you drive to your lodge. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge (Lodge Facility) or Kingfisher safari lodge/ Ihamba Safari Lodge (Budget Facility). Meal Plan Lunch and Dinner

Day 16:  Queen Elizabeth NP

Begin your day with a cup of coffee. Early morning game drive along Kasenyi and Queens Mile makes visitors encounter elephants, buffalo, water bucks, warthogs, lions, Uganda Kobs lakes and a variety of birds. Return to the lodge for breakfast and lunch. After lunch, a two hour boat trip along the famous Kazinga channel is worthwhile an opportunity to see Hippo, Buffalo, Kobs, Elephants, warthogs etc. This trip also enables visitor chance to see spectacular birds. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge (Lodge Facility) or Ihamba Safari Lodge (Budget Facility). Meal Plan Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 17: Queen Elizabeth- Kampala/Entebbe

Early morning departure, this will give you a chance to cross the Equator twice differently for more fun and for photography. Driving back to Kampala you will stop over in Fort Portal for lunch, arrive back in Kampala or Entebbe between 17.00 and 18.30 in the early evening depending on traffic. Head for Airport Check in for your night flight back home as scheduled.
